From Swing Upgrade Idea ...
... to Natural Play Space

Back in 2021, a simple idea was raised — could we improve the old swing area and create something special for the children of Overbury and Conderton? Since then, thanks to an incredible community effort, that idea has grown into an exciting plan for a beautiful natural play area for everyone to enjoy.

What We’ve Achieved Together

Through fundraising events, donations and local support, the community has raised a fabulous sum towards the installation of the scheme. We have had a Sherry tasting night (£740.76), Ceilidh and Auction evening (£4,003.93), 2 Christmas Markets (£4634.19), annual Street Markets contributions (£1700), cake sales and cafes during various events, Red or Black community lottery, and a calendar supported by local businesses and bought by people across Bredon Hill. We have had many generous donations from local residents (£5000+) and businesses (£1250) and a donation of £1000 from the Kemerton Under 5s when it closed.

The Vision: A Natural Play Space

Working with Copper Beech Play, we have developed a proposal for a welcoming, imaginative and inclusive natural play area that complements the character of it’s surroundings.

What Will It Include?

  • Balance logs, stepping stumps, activity wires and beams
  • A large log tunnel with climbing nets
  • Interactive activity boards (tree & animal themes)
  • Musical chimes for accessible sensory play
  • A community-built mud kitchen log
  • Rustic log seating for parents and carers
  • A bespoke wooden grasshopper feature
  • Grass-protection matting to preserve the natural look

The design uses natural timber, sits comfortably in the landscape, and avoids harsh surfacing wherever possible. It will be:

✔ Inclusive ✔ Low impact ✔ Durable ✔ In keeping with Overbury’s character

The installation will be safety-checked and insured, ensuring a secure space for families.

Why It Matters

This play space will:
  • Provide a gathering place for families
  • Encourage physical activity, balance and confidence
  • Support summer cricket and community events
  • Strengthen connections between children of Overbury, Conderton and surrounding villages
  • Support outdoor learning for Grasshoppers Nursery and Overbury First School

It’s more than a playground — it’s an investment in community life.

What Happens Next?

Installation is planned for end of April 2026, subject to final approvals and ordering timelines. With continued support and community involvement, we are excited to bring this long-held vision to life. After several years of fundraising, planning and collaboration — we’re nearly there. Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey so far. We can’t wait to see children playing there this summer.
